I’m not a touring speaker, artist, performer, etc.
If it wasn’t obvious by the set-up of this website, I eschew the spotlight.
I prefer to spend more time reading, writing, and thinking in silence and in community.
Outside of survival needs, I’m inclined to believe that the person whose entire presence is public speaking tends not to have anything meaningful to say. How can you study deeply, quietly, and soulfully if you’re always opening your mouth to have the first or the last word? Sounds implausible to me, sway.
I also reject the idea that the best way to “spread” knowledge is to deep throat the ableism of the academic lecture circuit, perpetually “busying” myself for the edification of others, at the expense of my well-being.
With that said, I occasionally will participate in public panels and give sermons when the spirit moves me and the occasion is right.
Before asking me to do anything, make sure to read the list of my academic and activist interests to make sure we’re in alignment on what I will and won’t participate in.
Once you’ve done that, send me an email detailing the date, time, and subject of the event.
Note: I delete emails from people asking me to do things that are clearly not aligned with my political and spiritual values. Life is short and earth is burning. I’m not going to waste my time saying no when you could have easily taken five minutes to ask yourself if this is a good fit. If you ask me to do something that’s not aligned with my politics and don’t receive a response, consider the delete button the response.
